The Pursuit
August 2023
I had a vision of a black horse running through ice. The sky was on fire, and a weighing scale hung suspended in the air. The moment felt intense, urgent, weighty, alive with purpose.
I began the painting and worked on it for several months. Then I felt the Lord lead me to set it aside. It wasn’t yet time for its completion for the full birthing of what it carried.
March 2026
I was led to return to the painting. As I resumed, I covered the horse in carefully placed scripture. While doing so, I began to see another image emerge, a second painting: a fiery white horse, rearing again and again, with the sound of a loud pocket watch ticking in the background.
In obedience, I pulled out a second canvas and began painting alongside the first. Side by side, I layered scripture into both, developing the horses together in tandem.
Though the horse appears black, it is filled with color, even within its shadows. As I added various foils, the red began to stand out. In it, I saw the image of blood, the cost of the Cross. Suffering. Sacrifice. Service. All woven into the true test of love.
Pressing through fire and ice awakens a hunger and thirst for righteousness to be established in the earth. This horse carries both justice and mercy, a deep, urgent longing for God’s standards to prevail. It speaks of conviction and repentance, ignited by a passion for the Holy Spirit.
The cry of my heart, when this painting first began in 2023, was a desperate plea: that I must have Him. And as I completed it in March 2026, that cry was reignited.
My Savior, my Jesus, must be my everything. For what is coming, our oil must be full.
He is the pursuit!
